The Punjab government is introducing stricter penalties for traffic violations through the Punjab traffic fine increase 2025 plan. The proposal, prepared by the traffic police, has already cleared departmental approvals and now awaits final approval from the provincial cabinet.
New Fines and Point System
The new rules raise fines for 25 traffic violations. Drivers will face penalties ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 20,000. Each violation will also reduce two to four points from the driver’s license. If a driver loses 20 points within one year, their license will be suspended for two months to one year.
Penalties for Common Violations
- Overspeeding: Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 20,000 plus a four-point deduction
- Breaking signals or wrong-way driving: Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 15,000 and four points cut
- Rash driving: Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 15,000 and four points cut
- Overloading vehicles: Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 15,000 and four points cut
- Using pressure horns: Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000 and two points cut
Shift to Digital Challaning
Currently, fines range from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500, with some cases reaching Rs. 2,000 by court order. Once approved, the new system will replace manual challaning with e-challaning. This digital shift aims to improve efficiency and reduce corruption in traffic enforcement.
In conclusion, the Punjab traffic fine increase 2025 is designed to improve road safety, enforce accountability, and modernize the traffic management system across the province.
