Attending the China military parade 2025 felt like witnessing history in motion. Xi Jinping led an impressive display of troops, soldiers, and armoured vehicles. They marched in lockstep across Tiananmen Square. The army and navy showcased traditional elements, while cyberspace unit specialists demonstrated cybersecurity and defence measures under the Xinhua news agency. Additionally, live-fire drills highlighted the information support force’s mastery over network information systems. This ensured military combat readiness and combined modern weapons with military hardware in a meticulous parade procession.

Nuclear triad on display for the first time

Furthermore, the parade revealed China’s nuclear triad. It was the first time air-based missile, land-based missile, and sea-based missile systems were displayed together. The showcase included JL-1, JL-3, DF-61, and DF-31. This strategic capability emphasizes sovereignty and national dignity. Meanwhile, US, Russia, and India watched closely. Hypersonic missiles and anti-ship missiles like Yingji-19, Yingji-17, and Yingji-20 patrolled over the Pacific Ocean, sending a strong signal to warships and the 7th Fleet near aircraft carriers.

Drones and robot wolves

A futuristic edge appeared with unmanned weapon systems and robot wolves. They were accompanied by underwater drones such as the AJX002, shaped like narrow submarines with propeller systems. Unmanned helicopters launched from ships, while laser weapons defended against attack drones. The laser gun mounted on a vehicle under tarpaulin and its searchlight effect reminded me how modern warfare now relies on tech once seen in James Bond films. Truly, this is military technology at its most advanced.

High above, advanced aircraft including fifth-generation fighter jets like the Chengdu J-20 and Shenyang J-35A demonstrated stealth capabilities. They rival the US air force’s F-35, F-22, and Russian Su-57. Additionally, the American F-35, along with UK allies, showed global operation potential. Observing the aerial assets, military range, and numbers, I realized this panoply of weapons systems emphasizes China’s preparedness in combined arms warfare. It also keeps military planners worldwide alert, despite major war experiences dating back decades.
