Slow internet can be frustrating, and checking connection quality often means opening a browser and searching for a speed test site. Microsoft plans to simplify this with the new Windows 11 Internet Speed feature, allowing users to test their connection in just one click.
In recent Insider builds, a new shortcut now appears in two places: by right-clicking the taskbar’s network icon and inside the Wi-Fi quick settings panel. One tap opens Bing, where the speed test runs instantly. While the process still relies on Bing rather than being fully built into Windows, it removes the need to search manually or open an extra site.
More Updates in Insider Builds
This feature is part of several small but useful tweaks rolling out in Windows 11 test builds. Microsoft is reorganizing Bluetooth settings so that connected phones appear in a central hub, making management simpler. Privacy and Security menus are also getting clearer labels for easier navigation.
Another addition, “Background AI tasks,” has surfaced, though it remains unstable for some testers and occasionally crashes. Its presence highlights Microsoft’s increasing focus on integrating AI deeper into the operating system.
Availability
Currently, these updates are limited to Insider builds (versions 26220.6682 and 26120.6682). Regular users won’t see them yet, and some features may not reach the final public release. However, given their practical nature, it’s likely that the one-click speed test and other improvements will roll out in an official Windows update soon.
Conclusion
Microsoft’s move to add a built-in connection check shows its focus on convenience and usability. With the Windows 11 Internet Speed shortcut, testing your network will soon be faster and simpler than ever.
