The Israeli military carried out a strike on residential areas in Qatar’s capital, Doha, according to a report by Al Jazeera.
Officials stated the attack targeted senior Hamas figures who had been long-time leaders of its regional operations. Israel confirmed its intent to continue pursuing Hamas leaders abroad, extending its military strategy beyond Gaza. This incident marked the Israel Qatar military strike, the sixth such action against a Muslim country in recent weeks.
Expanding Scope of Military Campaign
The Doha airstrike highlights Israel’s widening operations. Over the past weeks, Israeli forces have not only continued heavy bombardments in Gaza but also launched strikes in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.
On Saturday, a suspected Israeli drone attack also targeted a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla docked in Tunisia.
Context of the Attack
The timing of the strike coincided with remarks by Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir, who announced plans to pursue Hamas leaders internationally. It also followed Israel’s conditional acceptance of a US-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza, announced by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
Meanwhile, Hamas representatives in Doha were reportedly holding discussions over the same ceasefire proposal while Israel pressed ahead with its military push into Gaza City.
Qatar’s Response to the Strike
Qatar’s foreign ministry condemned the assault, describing it as both “cowardly” and “criminal.”
Spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari stated that striking residential buildings where Hamas political bureau members were based violated international law and endangered Qatari citizens. He further emphasized that Qatar “will not tolerate” violations of its sovereignty and stability. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities promising to release updates as details emerge.
Local Impact and Security Measures
According to Al Jazeera correspondent Suhaib al-Assa, the strike directly hit a residential neighborhood instead of a military facility. Local security forces quickly moved to secure the area, assess damages, and search for casualties.
Al-Assa reported that conditions remain “extremely sensitive” due to the location and the heightened risk for civilians.
The Israel Qatar military strike underscores the growing regional instability as Israel’s operations continue to extend across multiple Muslim nations.
