Google Photos Album Cover Redesign Brings Bold Magazine-Style Look

Google Photos is testing a new album redesign that could change how users interact with their photo libraries. Hidden code inside the app reveals that Google is preparing a bold Google Photos album redesign with large, center-aligned text and a more stylish, magazine-inspired layout.

Instead of small titles in the corner, album names will now take center stage with bold typography, giving each collection a stronger identity. The new design follows Google’s Material 3 Expressive guidelines, which focus on clean visuals and engaging layouts.

Dynamic Text Wrapping Experiment

One experimental feature, spotted but not yet active, is dynamic text wrapping. This would allow album titles to curve and flow around elements in the cover photo, blending text with imagery for a seamless effect. Although still in testing, it signals Google’s ambition to make photo albums feel more personal and artistic.

Interface Tweaks in Progress

The redesign also adjusts the app’s interface. The album image now extends to the top of the screen, while some buttons have shifted:

• The cast option is now hidden in the three-dot menu.
• The comments button moves to the bottom pill next to sharing and editing.
• The sort button appears to be removed, requiring users to enter edit mode for rearrangements.
