Having observed Pakistan’s startup ecosystem closely, it’s inspiring to see Ignite and the National Technology Fund take decisive steps to support women-led startups. Under the supervision of the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication, the initiative introduces the WISE Lab, a Women Innovation Lab and Startup Empowerment Lab designed to establish and manage a fully equipped lab in Islamabad. With 8,000–10,000 square feet of incubation space and the capacity to host 20 startups simultaneously, this program represents a significant boost for female entrepreneurship across Pakistan, including provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Through training programs, physical bootcamps, and outreach to 200 female micro-entrepreneurs, the lab addresses long-standing barriers like access to capital, digital skills, and professional networks.
From a practical standpoint, firms are invited to apply via a Request for Proposals (RFP), submitting technical bids and financial bids through the e-procurement system, ensuring a quality-and-cost evaluation that identifies a selected bidder to run the professional team overseeing incubation cycles. As someone familiar with startup incubation, I appreciate how this structure facilitates business development, digital literacy, investment readiness, and investor access, creating an environment where high-performing startups can qualify for grants of up to Rs. 2 million to scale operations effectively.
Beyond operational logistics, this project aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, advancing gender equality, inclusive growth, and meaningful entrepreneurship among women. Ignite continues to monitor and fund operations, leveraging experience in deep tech, National Incubation Centers (NICs), and startup grants to ensure measurable outcomes. For those passionate about empowering female founders, this initiative is more than a lab—it’s a blueprint for transforming Pakistan’s labor force participation and strengthening the ecosystem for women-led innovation.
